Hi, Do you want to download the firmware? (this is necessary to upgrade the firmware of CPU) But you are telling, that online already has FW4.2.1 In TIA Portal v14, you select the firmware v4.2 Best regards, Wizard |

Hello, I guess you have not installed WinCC Comfort v14. (Because you have not TP1500 Comfort panel) (See Help -> installed software) What version of TIA Portal v13 have you installed? Including Service packs and updates? Best regards, Wizard |

If you use TIA Portal V15 or higher and use "online access" from the project tree, you can expand the "General" tab to see the version of TIA Portal used to compile the project loaded in the PLC. V13 definitely does not show the Portal version required to upload from the PLC. V16+ definitely shows it. It's worth installing V16 or V17 just to see the portal project version details via the online access method. |

Thanks mate , That make more sense now , everybody says go online and check the version while I do and won't see any version. By the way, I think something is wrong with my TIA 14 as well because it doesn't show any hardware for TP1500 comfort!!! I decided to uninstall version 14 (SP1 + Update 3) and install it again + install version 16 as well (I tried Version 17 but I couldn't even see online Hardware's (PLC/HMI) the same as TIA 13). By the way, even Prosave V13 or V14 says: hardware's are not the same (TP1500 comfort) and won't let me to make a Backup of HMI... I've used prosave on different TP1200 comfort panels and upload it in a few seconds but not this panel! Thank you very much for the help |

If a panel was not loaded with a configuration setting that allows for the HMI to be "uploaded", you cannot perform an upload of the HMI. Perhaps that is the problem with that one HMI. |

Hello, Did you install WinCC Comfort v14? (If not, you can not select Comfort panel in your project) In Prosave did you select TP1500 Comfort or TP1500 Comfort v2? Best regards, Wizard |

You were right, I managed to find the version by using TIA 16 or 17 (My TIA 17 was on a notebook and I had some problem with Ethernet setting for USB to RJ45). [snip] |

Hello. Were you thinking of uploading from the HMI and pull that upload into WinCC to change the engineering design? That cannot be done with Siemens HMIs. It is only possible to upload a Siemens HMIs to load the same program in the same HMI hardware type. There is no way to get the engineering project into WinCC unless the engineering projects was saved in memory. Very few of designers do that. As a designer I like the security Siemens provides for not making it possible for 3rd parties to upload the HMI program and reverse engineer my work. Sorry. |

You right, I meant just PLC codes then I design a new project for HMI. I know I can not upload it (I tried even Prosave). but THANKS for reminding me This is what I meant: do you know where Tag names are kept to copy them as well on ONLINE? |

Yes. I work with those too. It is after all the customer who chooses. There are more brands that allows uploads into the engineering environment which I also worked with -- even if I am not a freelance. |

Thanks for the help, You were right about Version of the Hardware that belong to the TIA 14. Also I was right about TIA 13 was the software written for, Then who was wrong ? Answer is maybe this: problem is or what I think is (by the help I had from you Experts): Project was written for TIA 13 on CPU 1214C Version V4.0 or V4.1 But, CPU was changed at some point and fitted CPU with V4.2.1 for TIA 14 by the programmer. Then project wasn't compiled and copied to the CPU. Now, the only way (in my view)is: to have a copy of project then change the version and compiled it then download it to CPU by TIA 14. That means, I have to rewrite the codes for future modification or Fault Finding. Thank you very much for the help You Experts gave me. Me |

If you wisely take a breath and read this set of suggestions, you may find you were asking the wrong questions and so you got answers you did not like. Since you now know the PLC project loaded to the PLC was configured with a given TIA Portal version, you know you need to launch that same version in order to capture blocks from the PLC. Also, you know the firmware in the project and the firmware in the physical PLC are not the same. What you may not be aware of is that they do not need to be the same. As long as the firmware is of the same major revision, the online device's firmware needs to be the same minor revision or higher. Another think you may not be aware of is you can access blocks without performing a backup. Use the "Online access" method drag blocks from the online PLC to the offline project's PLC - where the PLC's are compatible. Hope this gets you closer to your goal of making the online and offline PLC blocks and tags all the same. |

Thanks mate, I did and read it carefully, but I couldn't drag and Drop on TIA 13. All I could do was: Open each Function and copy the networks THEN make a new Function and Paste it there for each Function or Function Block BUT not DataBases, as soon as I tried to paste DB, computer crashed and I had to do it again and again till I accepted the lost and hands up to write the DBs from scratch.. Thank you very much for your help. |

Ahh, that means the version of TIA Portal you are using is not compatible with the running PLC's project. You might have thought you were using the correct portal version, but if dragging and dropping with the online access is not working, then it is not compatible. At this point, it is probably faster to do what you have been doing with manually copying the DB configuration and pasting to a local DB of the same name and number.
