Dear sir,
I am here to ask for advice for selecting a Circuit breaker 1600A.
I have two generators, and the output of each generator will be transfer to bus bar and distribution system via a circuit breaker. Both circuit breaker will work as ATS system. It is required to operate 1out of 2 of the breakers, The two breaker are identical as the generators are also identical. It is required to use motorized CB with mechanical interlock.
Actually I am not sure whether the mechanical interlock system can work with motorized mechanisms or not in 3VL series, Or I should go to Air circuit breaker?
Please advice with the optimum selection with part number.
Regards,

Hello,

You can not use a mechanical interlocking system with bowden cable and a motorized molded case circuit breaker because them are mounting in the same space.
You should use the rear mechanical interlocking, that needs additionaly a mounting plate for hold the circuits breakers. Please see the catalog LV1 2008. page 16/64.

Best Regards.

Hi,

There are three types of recommended interlocks provided by SIEMENS in MCCB's.

1) Bowden wire between breakers.
2) Castell lock between breakers.
3) Using external contactors in motorized drive mechanism.

1,2 are not automatic; 3 can be made as automatic using external contactors for your application.

Hello,
As JBS2 adviced, I have used the rear mechanical interlock. and I used also motors for both MCCB. I have tested the function and it's working very good.
Thanks to all.

Hello Valli,
Thank you for your response! But my first question was from 10 monthes! it was at 20 Aug. 2008. I was asking if I could use 3VL series for ATS or I should use Air circuit breaker. Noting that I should use mechanical interlock with motorized version of the used breakers.

I have solved my problem. I have used two 3VL MCCB. with motors and with rear mechanical interlock. I have made a rear mounting kit to accomodate the MCCBs with the rear mechanical interlock. The system working very good and my client is very happy.
The control of the ATS is made via S7-300 And it's working good too. And I didn't ask how to control it.

Any way Thank you for your recommendations.
