I was wondering if Modbus over Ethernet (TCP) was supported by the S7 1200...

Currently, Modbus TCP is not supported, only Modbus RTU.

I too am looking for this support. It is the one thing keeping me from using the siemens product in anything other than my stand alone systems.

Wishlist please!

Hi,

the Modbus TCP is based on TCP comunication. The telegrams are not complex. In theory anyone could create a user program that mount / interpret this data struct and send / recive it by "normal ways".

as far I know there is something on the way. Maybe a kind of library for easy using modbus read and write functions. But not as complex like ModbusRTU library. But like Pegaia said, it is nothing more then TCP communication.

Local tech support guy (out of Virginia) demonstratied the S7-1200 $ Modbus TCP comms to our drives using Modbus Function 23. We exchanged ~20 double words some formated as Integers, others as Reals.

Worked quite well. (But like others have said it was custom code he wipped up. Looked to me like we was manually building the Modbus Header & Data Frame.

Next was getting the code to support Functions 16 & 3 (As our Touchscreens do not support function code 23).

I never went down that path as I found the touchscreen has an S7-300/400 driver and used it instead.

I can put you in contact with him if you like, and (he agrees). He has stated that hs Modbus TCP work has 'turned into a national thing'.

can't you (or he) make it available via this forum? I really like this forum, but Virginia is ~5000 miles away...
