Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) has added new features to the Enhanced EDD (electronics device
description) of the HART® and Profibus PA Sitrans LR250 level transmitters to provide additional
diagnostic functionality and ease of use. The enhancements include reorganizing the echo tools into one
convenient location and a new cyclic echo profile saving feature which allows users to save echo profiles
at pre-determined time intervals. In addition, this is one of the first Enhanced EDD that makes use of a
new harmonized menu and parameter structure between level, flow, temperature, pressure and valve
positioners from Siemens. This feature will make it easier to move from one type of Siemens device to
another. A new HART EDD for Emerson AMS configuration software is also included and Namur NE43 is
available as a configurable option which presets the failsafe output to 3.6 mA.
The Sitrans LR250 also has new explosion proof safety approvals – CSA, FM, ATEX and IECEx. These approvals allow the Sitrans LR250 to be used in hazardous locations containing flammable gases without the requirement for an intrinsically safe barrier. These approvals contribute to greater applicability in the chemical and petrochemical industries.
