 The
tobacco is opened, then fed at a carefully metered rate
into the sublimator.
The sublimator heats the tobacco to about 400°C.
On entering the sublimator, the carbon dioxide in the
dry-ice-frozen tobacco immediately changes from a solid
to a gas. This sublimation rapidly builds up a high vapor
pressure in the tobacco, causing the tobacco to expand
by up to 100%.
Tobacco exiting the sublimator has a low moisture content.
The reordering process returns the moisture to an acceptable
level.
Typically, the DIET tobacco is then boxed off, ready
to be added to the final blend.
