Reference project Infineon DRAM 300
Communication
network for the chip factory Infineon in Dresden
Construction schedule: February 2000
- July 2001
Implementation of IT network: Sept. 2000 -
June 2001
Within the international
manufacturing network of Infineon, the fab in Dresden is the reference
site for the DRAM "Fab Cluster" (the manufacturing network
with production facilities in Europe, Asia and the USA).
The project for setting up the new 300 mm production line (SC 300)
set new standards with regard to the demands made on project management
and the implementation team. In a considerably shorter time than
for comparable projects, we managed to install 60% more terminals
and more than two and a half times as many connections. An expansion
project saw a 100% increase in the office area. Furthermore, we
were able to fulfil the tasks, which were implemented using cutting-edge
technology, at considerably less cost to project management than
originally expected.

Network
topology
- Double-star
backbone structure (redundant Gigabit Ethernet network)
- Terminal
connection to "switched" 10/100 Mbps and 1000 Mbps Ethernet
ports
- High redundancy
and low convergence times for maximum availability
Network
expansion
- 12 km: 24-fiber
optical fiber
- 2,500 splices
- 10 km: prefabricated
optical fiber technology
- Installation
of approx. 4,500 monomode or multimode fiber connections
Project
specifications
- Passive
network DRAM 300
- Fiber
optic network DRAM 300
- 13.5
km 24-fiber outdoor cable
- 11 km
24-fiber indoor cable
- Future-proof
due to Class F system (1200 MHz)
- 350
km Category 7 cabling
- 7,200
passive ports
- 2,568
fabs (Building 32)
- 2,664
offices (Building 02)
Active
network components
- Dimensioned
for high availability and redundancy
- Gigabit
Ethernet backbone
- Fast
Ethernet 10/100 for clients
- Approx.
6,700 active ports
