Modeling batch processes
Besides evaluating balances, there are a number of other tasks in modeling batch processes that are different from those in modeling continuous processes. For example, different synthesis routes have to be compared on the basis of their production costs to select the most appropriate one. Cycle plans are very important to obtain an optimum workload for a given plant or show how the equipment can be supplemented. Logistic problems such as availability of personnel and failure scenarios also have to be taken into account. Emission quantities should be determined as a function of time to provide data for designing an appropriate exhaust-air decontamination system. Finally, it must be possible to reconstruct the process and set up comprehensive documentation so that cGMP targets can be met.
A&D AS Solutions Process Industries has the know-how and software tools for simulation of batch processes. Simulation is always based on the particular formulation and configuration of equipment. The individual process steps are evaluated as exactly as necessary. For complex formulations in fine chemistry, specialty chemistry and the pharmaceutical sector, shortcut models are often used. On the other hand, single process operations such as distillation must be modeled with a physically meaningful model. As for continuous processes, we use our comprehensive experience to obtain results close to reality and to describe the operational parameters as a function of time. |
