The 3SF7844 light curtains of the SIMATIC FS400I family are now available with an integrated PROFIsafe port. This permits fail-safe communications. The PROFIsafe connection permits a complete diagnosis over PROFIBUS and automatic calibration of parameters. Automatic parameterization after a device was replaced shortens downtimes.

The light curtains comply with the Cat. 4 safety categories according to EN 954-1, type 4 in accordance with IEC/EN 61496 as well as SIL 3 in accordance with IEC 61508. Variants with resolutions of 14 mm, 30 mm, and 50 mm with protective field depths of 150 mm to 3000 mm are available.

The functions Test Signal, Start/Restart Inhibit, Contactor Monitoring, Blanking, Muting, and Sequential Control are already integrated. The functions are individually adapted either by means of six internal switches or through the optical interface of the receiver by means of teach-in or with the help of the user friendly SafetyLab diagnostics and parameterization software. STEP 7 function blocks are used for integrating the system into the automation solution.
