Flexibly into the Bag
A German manufacturer is equipping his packing machines for sensitive products consistently with the Simotion motion control system and is getting very good results. One example is a packing machine for tampons which allows changeover to other formats continuously and without additional mechanical adaptations.

Sinamics Enhances Bowling Pleasure
When something is source of a great deal of fun, the technology involved frequently deviates from the norm, thereby setting new standards. This is certainly the case with bowling, where the time it takes to reset the pins and the lane cleared for the next throw cannot be short enough.

Heavy Gear Parts Linked Easily
The Swiss automation specialist Paro has been building assembly lines for 20 years. They recently received the order from an automotive supplier to convey heavy gear parts as gently as possible from one station to the next. The ideal solution was a compact frequency converter which possesses all the required protective functions as a complete motor branch.

Perfect surfaces
Jewelry and objects of different materials leave the sliding grinding systems made by the OTEC company with a high-precision polish. In order to adapt the machines quickly and cheaply to special functions, the market leader has chosen a system solution with an optimum price-performance ratio: with Micro Automation, drives and HMI from Siemens.

Perfect surfaces
The vibratory grinding systems of the OTEC company grind many different metal and ceramic workpieces with high precision. In order to convert the machines to special functions quickly and at low cost, the company has chosen an automation solution with Simatic S7-200.

The new generation of stable hands
Uwe and Frank Kraft are two of those lucky people who are able to unite job and enthusiastic hobby perfectly with one another. For them that means: Horse breeding and training and management of a metalworking company which specializes in the manufacture of riding equipment. For the last year, the horse training systems have been equipped with SIMATIC S7-200 and LOGO! and allow optimum movement of the animals.

Faster in form
In conventional lathes the speed is adjusted by a graduated belt drive by which it is adapted to different kinds of wood and diameters. In the DMV-200 made by the Scheppach company for example with five stepped spindle speeds. For more flexible adaptation of the spindle speed to the processing steps a variable-speed drive Sinamics G110 now gives new impetus to the machine.

Dynamic Duo
With two systems, the Volkswagen AG and Siemens Automation and Drives jointly demonstrated at the Hanover Fair 2005 what possibilities the use of Profinet holds for the automotive industry. On show in Hall 17: a fully mobile fastening system equpped with Wireless LAN and a live producing radiator line with integrated safety based on Profinet IO.

Efficient operation and control of a bio-gas system
A new control, operation, regulation and drive concept has been developed for a new kind of agricultural bio-gas system. The new Simatic WinCC flexible HMI system plays a major role in it. With the Sm@rtAccess and Sm@rtService options the system can be operated and monitored via the Internet.

Curtains Up
While theatergoers are enjoying the Vienna Academy Theatre’s performance of the baroque comedy Bérénice de Molière they also get to experience fast, smooth changes of scenery supported by state-of-the-art technology. Movable and rotatable curtains, operated by the new Sinamics G110 type converters, are used to create different spaces on stage.

Sometimes Less is More
Siemens has set a new standard for drive technology with presenting of the Sinamics family of drives. Sinamics covers the various market requirements while the individual device solves the specific drive task precisely and at low cost. The first results of this philosophy have already proven effective in practice.

Converters and inverters - an A to Z
Siemens Automation & Drives offers a range of variable speed drives to satisfy the varied requirements of modern industrial applications. The spectrum extends from cost-effective, multifunctional inverters for small power ratings, to reliable large drives in the megawatt range, right through to highly dynamic drive systems for tooling and production machines.
