Protecting, switching, measuring, monitoring - all functions from one source
Four ways to success
Beta low-voltage circuit protection offers a broad overall spectrum for residential buildings just as much as for non-residential buildings or industrial applications. Be it protection, switching, monitoring or measurement - Beta always has the suitable device, the advantage for users being that they can rely on one single supplier.

Siemens is the only manufacturer to offer a comprehensive protection concept with a range of harmonized devices for protecting, switching, measuring and monitoring and is continuing to push innovations in this area as an acknowledged technology leader in the field of RCCBs.

Beta protecting

Siemens offers a wide range of products for line protection, for protection of persons and fire protection, for lightning current and surge voltage protection and also for device and system protection, thus affording a maximum of flexibility, convenience and security in building installation and in industrial installations. The Beta product range consists of protective devices such as miniature circuit breakers, residual current operated protective devices and surge suppressors.

To protect wiring against damage caused by overload and short-circuit, miniature circuit breakers are available with modern fast plug-in terminals and mounting that allows easy assembly.

Due to their low heat capacity, the power semiconductors used in converter devices require protection of fast-switching elements. This is why the Sitor semiconductor fuses are ideal for protecting converters against short circuits.

Even today, electrical installation would be inconceivable without melting fuses. Be it in electrical distribution boards, as circuit fuses or when it comes to selectivity limits when breaking circuits, Siemens has the broadest range to offer for all applications.

Residual current devices offer protection against direct and indirect contact. As additional protection for persons, against fires and for systems, this technology has now been extended with Siquence, a type B AC/DC sensitive device series up to 125 A. Lightning currents and surge voltages cause substantial damage. The product range of protective devices extends from type I lightning arresters to special protective devices for particularly sensitive systems and devices corresponding to type III.

Beta switching

Beta low-voltage circuit protection technology would be incomplete without the essential function of switching. Reliable switching on and off of a highly diverse range of loads, switching of events in control systems or Emergency Stop switching are an indispensable component of an electrical installation. Fitters and system manufacturers are offered an extensive choice of manually and electrically actuated switches and switching devices. Pushbuttons with and without a latching function are available for use in control systems, switch disconnectors for switching parts of systems and indicator lights as visual indicators of switching states and faults.

Electrical switching devices range from the remote control switch through Insta contactors and switching relays to the motor soft-starting device for gentle operation of machines, fans, pumps or compressors.

Timer switches are used in residential and non-residential buildings mainly to switch off lighting after a certain time. Timer switches for industry take care of timed functions in control systems of installations and machines. Timer switches featuring a yearly, weekly or daily program automate switching of lighting or of systems and parts of systems. Digital timer switches can be put to the most versatile uses. With them, switching exactly to the minute, different switching programs, for example for the weekend and working days or for a specific date, can be realized with relative ease.

Bell transformers for the supply of gongs, buzzers or door-openers, transformers for continuous use to power monitoring circuits, switching relays or Insta contactors, power supply units and sockets round off the Beta range.

Beta measuring

Measuring instruments are the prerequisite for a successful protection concept. Acquisition of measured data enables reliable assessment of loads on distribution boards, thus inevitably leading to optimization processes. This not only secures system availability, but also even saves energy. The spectrum ranges from voltmeters and ammeters through measurement changeover switches to multi-functional measuring instruments. These multimeters return up to 36 measurements which, combined as a selection to suit requirements, can be read off up to six vigorously lit displays.

Multimeters, but also E counters, are nowadays integrated in data bus systems to store measured values or to read them out remotely. Thus, multimeters are available that feature a Profibus interface. Multimeters and E counters can, however, also be integrated into a building's infrastructure by means of a LAN coupler. Values are then read out from an Excel file, from which the data can then be edited to suit requirements.

Beta monitoring

With a wide range of functions, monitoring devices protect people, machines and systems. In most cases, though, they do not isolate a system from the mains, but signal or switch to an emergency power supply or have systems switched off via Insta contactors.

Voltage relays monitor the voltage and, whenever required, switch to an emergency power supply for emergency lighting. This protects people in meeting rooms. Insulation monitors monitor IT networks for rooms used for medical purposes, for example operation rooms. Here also, a voltage relay switches to an emergency power supply if required.

Current relays are available for monitoring overcurrent or undercurrent. They monitor emergency lighting systems, signal lights on high buildings, or even motors. Not every limit violation of the monitoring relay is integrated in automatic switching over or deactivation, however. Much more often, human beings are needed to assess or eliminate a malfunction. With the GSM alarm module, disruptions are now passed on to a mobile telephone. This quite substantially boosts the availability of a system. Faults are detected quickly. Using the GSM alarm module, remote switching is also possible from any place in the world - provided a network connection is available.

Also in the BETA range: BETA busbars

The busbar system for modular installation devices enables a direct view of the conductors for safe and quick connection of miniature circuit-breakers, RCCBs and lightning and surge voltage protective devices.
