| | Siemens A&D Large Drives Division under new management | Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Brandes (1961) has been head of the Large Drives Division of Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) in Nuremberg since the beginning of the year. Dr. Brandes replaces the previous Division Head, Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Feldmann, who has retired.
Jürgen Brandes is an electrical engineer with a doctorate in Drives Engineering from the University of Hanover. Since university, his career path has led from research and development, through production, to sales and marketing. In his last position, Dr. Brandes worked for Siemens in the US, where, in a managerial post, he was a substantial driving force behind the redevelopment of Siemens Energy & Automation (SE&A). Following this, he managed the Special Machines business unit within the Large Drives Division in Berlin for fifteen months.
With more than 7,000 employees worldwide, the Large Drives Division produces and markets products, solutions and services for industrial drives and special drives over 200 kilowatts, as well as traction drives. The range of products includes low-voltage and high-voltage three-phase machines, as well as the converters for these machines. In addition, LD offers DC drives, special drives for ships and rolling mills, as well as converters, controllers and motors for traction drives, but also power converters for energy transmission, and after-sales service for high-power drives systems.
