SINAMICS S120 AC/AC with PROFINET

With AC/AC devices, the infeed and the power supply of the motor are combined in the power module. The power module is available in Blocksize and Chassis type of construction. For single-axis applications, a special control unit (CU310) installed on the power module executes the drive control; for multi-axis applications, a control unit (e.g. CU320) coupled using DRIVE-CLiQ executes the drive control.

The CU310 PN control unit is designed for the communications, open-loop and closed-loop functions of a power module and, together with the power module, is acting as a high-performance single drive. PROFINET IO is used for communications with a higher-level controller.

Thus, in the PROFINET context, SINAMICS S120 with the CU310PN control unit is a PROFINET IO device offering the following functions:

  • 100 Mbit/s full-duplex
  • Support of the RT (real-time) and IRT (isochronous real-time) real-time classes of PROFINET IO
  • Connection to controllers in accordance with PROVIdrive based on the V4 specification
  • Standard TCP/IP communications for engineering with the STARTER software
  • Integrated 4-port switch with two RJ45 sockets based on the PROFINET ASICs ERTEC400. This allows the construction of the optimum topology without requiring the use of external switches.
