SCALANCE W-780 Access Points and HiPath Wireless

Wireless networks are constructed with the Access Points of the SCALANCE generation. Extended networks transfer stations without interruption from one radio cell to the next roaming.

SCALANCE W788-1 Access Points
SCALANCE W788-1 Access Points are available in two variants:
SCALANCE W 788-1 PRO and SCALANCE W 788-1 RR
In both cases, the Access Points are of the same construction with an integral radio interface.

Further to the functionality of the SCALANCE W 788-1 PRO the SCALANCE W 788-1 RR Access Point has a rapid roaming function that enables particularly fast transfer of information. Rapid roaming is an expansion of Industrial Wireless LAN, and offers real-time wireless communication even if stations move from one radio cell to another and updating times of up to 20 ms are required. Additionally in the case of SCALANCE W 788-1 RR up to 50 stations can be operated at the same time under real-time conditions in one radio cell.

SCALANCE W788-2 Access Points
The additional radio card for WLAN 802.11b/g and 802.11a which distinguishes the SCALANCE W788-2 Dual Access Points from the SCALANCE W 788-1 Access Points permits a wide range of applications to be implemented. For example, redundant point-to-point links or a wireless backbone can be implemented with one of the radio cards and the other can be used to construct an infrastructure at the location of the Dual Access Point. The SCALANCE W788-2 Access Points are also available in the variants PRO and RR.
SCALANCE W-786 Access Points for use in areas with high requirements
SCALANCE W786-1PRO Access Points/W786-2PRO / W786-3PRO / W786-2RR
  • Temperature
    The W-786 Access Points are particularly suitable for applications with high climatic requirements (from -40°C to +70°C).
  • Robustness
    The impact-resistant plastic housing provides protection against destruction in particular when used in public areas. The UV and salt spray resistance of the devices permit installation and operation of the Access Points e.g. in ports, offshore equipment or in container logistics
  • Approved for operation in hazardous areas in Zone 2
The Access Points of the SCALANCE W-786 product line are equipped with up to three built-in radio modules (W786-1 PRO, W786-2PRO, W786-3PRO) and available with internal and external antennas, RJ45 and fiber-optic connectors (BFOC). This device series also includes a Rapid Roaming variant, the SCALANCE W786-2RR. All devices can be operated as Ethernet Client Modules.
SCALANCE W-786 HPW Access Points for use in areas with high requirements

SCALANCE W786-2HPW can be used as a "thin access point" for operation with the HiPath Wireless controller, thus opening up the advantages of this architecture to industrial and outdoor areas.
  • Use with HiPath wireless LAN controller for comprehensive solutions in office and production environments. Integration of optiPoint WLAN phones (Voice over WLAN) is possible
  • SCALANCE W786-2HPW can only be used with the HiPath WLAN controller
  • Approved for operation in hazardous areas in Zone 2
SCALANCE W-784 Access Points und Ethernet Client Modules for installation in a control cabinet or integration into devices
The SCALANCE W-784 Access Points and Ethernet Client Modules are especially suitable for space-saving integration into the control cabinet. They correspond in their functionality to the access points and Ethernet client modules of the SCALANCE W-788 product range and they have a wireless module. The access point versions can also be operated in Ethernet client mode. The access points are available in two versions:
  • W784-1 (functionally compatible with W788-1PRO)
  • W784-1RR (functionally compatible with W788-1RR)
and the Ethernet client modules are available in three versions:
  • W744-1 (functionally compatible with W744-1PRO)
  • W746-1 (functionally compatible with W746-1PRO)
  • W747-1 (functionally compatible with W747-1RR)
The outstanding features of the access points and Ethernet client modules of the SCALANCE W-784 product range include advanced data security thanks to WPA2/IEEE 802.11i and IEEE 802.1x (RADIUS), aluminum housing, degree of protection IP30, Ex approval (Zone2), and an expanded temperature range between -20°C and +60°C. In addition, the SCALANCE W-784 products are suitable for wall-mounting as well as for DIN-rail-mounting (35mm DIN) with the optional MS 2 mounting set, and for mounting on the S7-300 sectional rail.
