SIMODRIVE ® 611 universal is a component from the SIMODRIVE 611 modular system range. All the components in the range can be used, such as power supplies and power modules.

Universal application
SIMODRIVE 611 universal is particularly suitable for the field of mechanical engineering, especially in the packaging, wood, glass, printing, plastics and machine tool sectors.
Universal drive technology
Universal - supports the most diverse motors, such as synchronous, induction and linear motors.
You can operate the same SIMODRIVE 611 universal control with the following Siemens motors:
- Synchronous motors
- 1FK6, 1FT6 servo motors
- 1FE synchronous spindles
- 1PH/1PL/1LA induction motors
(also for operation without encoder)
- 1FN linear motors
These motors are listed in a table in the drive - all you have to do is click on them. Motors from other manufacturers can also be added if required.
Universal encoder technology
Allows evaluation of a whole range of motor encoder systems:
- 2-pole to 6-pole resolvers
- Incremental encoders with sine/cosine 1 V pp up to 65,535 pulses
- Absolute value encoders with sine/cosine 1 V pp and EnDat protocol
Also supports connection of a second, direct measuring system.

Universal for positioning tasks
In addition to the conventional drive functionality - such as torque and speed control - SIMODRIVE 611 universal offers integrated positioning functionality in a standard version with output frequencies of up to 1400 Hz.
You can enter up to 64 separate traversing blocks and store them in plaintext in the drive with SimoCom U. And, you can program jerk limitation, acceleration, speed and target position (absolute or relative) individually in each traversing block. Additional functions include external block change, travel/positioning to a dead stop and on-the-fly measurement.
Various types of referencing are available:
- Reference point approach to cam or zero mark with selectable offset
- Reference point definition as a parameterized value via signals, terminal/PROFIBUS-DP.
Block selection is performed either via digital input terminal or via PROFIBUS-DP.
Universal interfaces to higher-level control systems
SIMODRIVE 611 universal offers a host of communication interfaces for flexible integration into higher-level control systems:
- Analog interface for setpoint definition (speed/torque setpoint).
You can integrate SIMODRIVE 611 universal into conventional control concepts using ±10 V, one of the most widely used interfaces in analog technology.
- Shaft-angle encoder interface
WSG (RS 422)
Used as outputs, difference tracks A/B/R offer external controls pulse encoder simulation, or as inputs, the pulse/direction signals are analyzed in the same way as on a stepper motor and processed as shaft-angle setpoint.
The higher-level control can be a SIMATIC ® S7-300 function module, such as FM 353 or FM 357-2, or in the simplest scenario a counter module or a pulse-clocked output. You can implement a reference setpoint value linkage or synchronized operation by means of parallel pulse/direction signals on several SIMODRIVE 611 universal drives.
The PROFIBUS-DP interface allows seamless integration of the SIMODRIVE 611 universal into any automation landscape. At the entry level, PROFIBUS-DP can be used as a communication bus for the control via a PLC. Diagnostics and start-up can also be performed via this bus.
With more complex motion tasks, you can use the PROFIBUS-DP with Motion Control to implement a closed-loop system via a higher-level control (e.g. SINUMERIK
® 840Di).This allows operations such as synchronized operation, angle synchronization and interpolation.
SIMODRIVE 611 universal provides 4 digital inputs and 4 digital outputs. They are freely programmable. Enables, activation/switching commands and selections can be sent to the device via the digital inputs. Digital outputs can be used for output of status messages (position reached, permissible torque exceeded, etc.), according to your settings, for further processing.
The optional terminal expansion module provides 8 inputs and 8 outputs which the PLC can use to call traversing blocks for positioning.

This powerful software tool offers easy-to-operate start-up, service information and online help under Windows 95/98/NT.
In addition to configuration of the drive system, SimoCom U also provides high-level functions such as:
- Automatic speed controller optimization by setting filters at points of resonance
- FFT (Fast Fourier Transformation) analysis for phase frequency curve/amplitude log frequency curve to assess controlled systems
- Function generator for drive assessment when running in the machine.
An integrated trace memory provides user-friendly oscilloscope functionality for a range of drive sizes. Transition functions or signal charts can be displayed directly on the PC and saved on disk. You can easily update the firmware or compare drive parameters (original data - changed data) at any time via SimoCom U.

All data securely contained in one package
All of the SIMODRIVE 611 universal data - such as drive data, system software and data software - is securely contained on one removable memory submodule. Should you ever need to change the drive, then you can just swap over the memory module, no additional tools are required.
