The mechanical integration of the ELFA drive motors and generators can be realized flexibly with the components shown above. Electrical axle solutions developed by ArvinMeritor are available for Midi buses, 12m and articulated buses. Using Super-Single tires the „Low Floor Axle“ mentioned above provides an aisle width of approx. 850 mm with a floor level of approx. 340 mm. However, as an alternative a gear box, e.g. the summation gear box mentioned above can be used to connect the drive motors with the differential gear of a conventional rear axle. The step-up gear box is used for the combination of the generator with a low-speed internal combustion engine. Moreover, step-up gear boxes with several generator fittings are available that allow the realization of compact and inexpensive diesel generator sets with power ratings of up to 600 kW.
