Electric Drive System
Next to the electrical components a hybrid drive system typically consists of a power supply, like an internal combustion engine (ICE) or a fuel cell as well as an energy storage device like a battery or an ultra capacitor. For propulsion systems without any energy storage devices electrical drives are used in the first place because of their comfortable jerk free acceleration and because they offer more freedom for the design, based on the flexible arrangement of the electrical components. Drives using an internal combustion engine are called diesel electric drives, drives using a fuel cell are called „pure fuel cell drives“.
By upgrading a diesel electric city bus with an energy storage device to a hybrid bus, the main advantages in the use of the ELFA drive system will arise, i.e. significant emission reductions and energy savings. |
