SIMATIC THIN CLIENT - Cost effective operator devices for Terminal- or
Web-Client Applications
The SIMATIC THIN CLIENTS offer a very cost-effective possibility to run an
operator station on-site at the machine with high convenience. Typical
application cases include a second operator station at large or distributed
machines in connection with another SIMATIC Panel or Panel PC as well as as a
remote operator terminal in client/server applications, rsp. as a web-client.
The overcoming of larger distances as a remote operator terminal is made
possible by the utilization of the existing Ethernet connection. The SIMATIC
THIN CLIENT communicates via WinCC flexible option SmartAccess with another
SIMATIC Panel or Panel PC , which runs as a host.
Via the Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) it is also possible to
connect the THIN CLIENT with a Windows Server.Unlike with office viewers
under Windows CE, a write-mode processing of the data is possible here. |

RDP is a Microsoft standard protocol supported by
all Windows operating systems. It makes it possible to also visualize
third-party systems from other manufacturers on the SIMATIC THIN CLIENT and
thus integrate them into the system. The THIN CLIENT itself does not need
any installation or licenses of additional software on the client..
THIN CLIENTS are offered in variants with 10" and 15" TFT-displays and 64 K
colors being installation-compatible with the Multi Panels of the same size. The
resolution of 640 x 480 pixels (10"-devices) rsp. 1024 x 768 (15"-devices)
allows representation of complex screen images. The devices can be operated by
touch screen (via integrated virtual keyboard) An additional external keyboard
or mouse can be connected with a USB interface.
