AS-Interfacein Operation at Alzmetall in Altenmarkt/Germany
As innovative mechanical engineers of machining centers and rotary indexing special-purpose
machines, Alzmetall is backing AS Interface. This confidence has not only seen
reduced costs in the areas of construction and mounting/installation, but also
increased flexibility in the area of special-purpose machines.
AS Interface helps to simplify the electrical installation of a wide range
of compact machine tools.
Why AS Interface? In the Alzmetall BAZ 26 CNC machining center, the AS Interface is connected to the SINUMERIK 840D controller over PROFIBUS using a so-called DP/AS Interface link. As well as using the compact AS Interface module in IP 67 to detect sensor signals and control valves, Alzmetall takes distribution even further, so that the switchgear for controlling auxiliary operating mechanisms (e.g. for the chip conveyor) are mounted in the direct vicinity of the motors. The usefulness of AS Interface is evident even in the planning stages of special-purpose machines, where time savings of up to 30% were achieved. Alzmetall estimated that AS Interface helped reduce installation times by approx. 30% and was particularly impressed by the flexibility gained through using AS Interface. All this means that it is now able to implement additional customer demands without endangering delivery deadlines. Even subsequent expansions are no longer cost-intensive.
The application advantages of the AS Interface from Siemens:
Time savings of up to 30% during the planning of special-purpose
machines
Time savings of up to 30% during
installation
High flexibility during the configuration of machines
Considerable reduction of control
cabinet area through consistent distributed configuration – even the switching
devices are mounted in the immediate vicinity of the motor.
