Devices for PROFIBUS DP

Continue to use PROFIBUS devices unchanged

Siemens has developed network transitions between Industrial Ethernet and PROFIBUS with PROFINET proxy functionality. This allows all PROFIBUS devices (standard slaves and intelligent devices) to be integrated unchanged into PROFINET communications on Ethernet.

Large selection of PROFIBUS devices

Nothing has been changed on the present PROFIBUS DP protocols and profiles. That's why all PROFIBUS DP standard slaves and SIMATIC S7 intelligent slaves can participate in communications over PROFINET. They are connected to Ethernet communications by means of the proxy functionality in the DP Master.

The following devices are available:
  • SIMATIC ET 200X distributed I/O for cabinetless installation with built-in CPU (BM 147 CPU)
  • SIMATIC ET 200S for installation in the control cabinet, with built-in CPU (IM 151 CPU)
  • Compact CPUs and all CPUs of the S7-300 that can be operated as slaves on PROFIBUS.
  • The ET 200 CPUs and the compact CPUs of the S7-300 (with integral PROFIBUS interface) are used as intelligent field devices (slaves) on PROFIBUS for preprocessing the process data on-site in distributed configurations. The distributed systems are available in degree of protection IP 20 (ET 200S, S7-300) and IP 65 (ET 200X).
  • All current standard slaves with GSD file in accordance with the PROFIBUS DP standard.

Integrating drives

The following products can currently be used for integrating drives:
  • SIMATIC ET 200X with integral load feeders and integral frequency converters
  • SIMATIC ET 200S with integral motor starter, and converters with universal interface protocol
  • In addition, all converters that are standard slaves on PROFIBUS DP and have a GSD file can be used
