Siemens Water Technologies wins showcase Gippsland Water Factory Contract

Siemens Water Technologies has been awarded a contract from the Gippsland Water Factory Alliance (GWFA) for the membrane operating system as part of the new water factory project located in Gippsland, Victoria.

The Gippsland Water Factory (GWF) will be a showcase water reuse project in Australia and will provide significant volumes of class A water within the Gippsland region and is seem as a showcase environmental initiative in Australia.

The contract is a major achievement for Memcor, part of Siemens Water Technologies group. The Memcor team out manoeuvred the early preferred technology proponent and demonstrated a clear technical understanding of the project deliverables during post bid evaluation. GWFA moved across to a Siemens design soon after preliminary post bid design discussions. Tony Handakas, GM of Siemens Water Technologies, congratulated Memcor team for a superb effort in securing this high profile contract against stiff competition.

Memcor membrane technology (Membrane Operating System referred to as MBR technology) will an integral part of the GWF process and further consolidates Siemens as world best technology provider for reuse projects using innovative Memcor MBR systems. The Memcor MBR system will be manufactured entirely locally at the Memcor Technology Centre, Windsor, NSW.

The Gippsland Water Factory will be an innovative wastewater treatment and recycling system located in the Gippsland region of Victoria. The system will treat up to 35 million litres of domestic and industrial wastewater daily, and provide around 8 million litres of Class A recycled water each day for use by local industry.

The Gippsland Water Factory Project Alliance includes Gippsland Water, and a consortium of three specialised companies that will provide design and construction services. These are Transfield Services Limited: provider of capital project management services; CH2M HILL: engineering, construction and operations in the water and wastewater sector; and Parsons Brinckerhoff: for engineering delivery services in environment and infrastructure.
