Joint ATS Siemens Manufacturing Execution Systems World Tour
In late September, Siemens will be joining forces with solution partner ATS to launch their MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) World Tour in Melbourne, Australia, in an effort to generate further exposure on the benefits of MES and promote the relevant portfolios of both companies. Attendees will be able to listen to technical lectures or participate in interactive sessions on the subject of MES.
New interface for the solar sector
Siemens Industry Automation has extended its competence in “Vertical Market Management (VMM) Glass” to the solar sector, to provide support for producers and field users from the solar industry with a range of automation solutions and products. The new VMM Glass & Solar based in Karlsruhe benefits from the extensive fund of expertise built up by Siemens over its many years of involvement in the glass and solar industry. The aim of the VMM is to better utilize potential in the solar sector for Siemens by concentrating existing application expertise.
Implementing RFID at zero cost
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a technology used to streamline production and logistical processes. As leading supplier, Siemens offers a comprehensive RFID portfolio, including products and systems from Siemens Industry Automation, technical and business management advice, process design as well as technology, process and IT integration. But as the grip of recession tightens, lacking availability of funding can present a significant stumbling block for medium-sized enterprises keen to introduce RFID into their operations. This is the conclusion reached following an online survey by the “Electronic Commerce Network” (EC-NET). To address this deficit, Siemens Finance & Leasing is offering financing for RFID projects. To allow companies to streamline their production and logistical processes with new RFID solutions, Siemens Finance & Leasing has come up with a new scheme which will allow RFID projects to be financed within budget.

Siemens gear units drive solar power plant
At the end of April, Abengoa Solar began commercial operation of the world’s largest solar thermal tower plant, the new PS20, in Seville, Spain. The plant makes use of gears developed specifically for the application by Siemens Drive Technologies. The operators state that PS20 is the second commercial plant using the solar tower principle to produce environmentally friendly, clean power. What are known as heliostats reflect and bundle the solar radiation they receive onto the tower, heating up the heat carrier which drives the turbine to generate electricity.
One of Saxony’s biggest solar parks equipped with Siemens technology from Fürth
The Fürth-based Business Unit Systems Engineering (SE) was commissioned by photovoltaic system integrator Gehrlicher Solar AG from Neustadt near Coburg to supply photovoltaic (PV) system components for a major new PV installation. A total of ten container solutions using Sinvert photovoltaic inverters and medium-voltage switchgear systems were required to be supplied for the 20 megawatt (MW) project by the end of September.
