Siemens Axiva is planning and building production systems for two Ketek intermediate products at Aventis PharmaSiemens Axiva is planning and building production systems for two intermediates for Ketek, a bronchial antibiotic, at Aventis Pharma in the Höchst Industrial Park near Frankfurt. Production is slated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2004. As general planner, Siemens Axiva is responsible for the successful integration of two production lines into an existing operation. In addition to rebuilding tasks while the plant is operating, the project calls for the utilization of existing apparatus and equipment as well as entirely new construction of vital parts of the plant. Services include basic und detail engineering as well as procurement assistance and installation supervision. The newly constructed part of the system will be producing two substances - desclarithromycine (DES) and pyridinoimidazolphthalimide (PIP) - in complex syntheses. Additional tasks will address process steps for solvents reprocessing and exhaust air treatment. During the development of the process, Siemens Axiva has already been working closely with the customer in using batch simulations to develop data concerning the quantities, energy and exhaust air related to the production of the two substances, and in designing much of the equipment.Based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Siemens Axiva is a leading provider of process engineering and technical engineering services for the process industry, with 540 employees and annual sales of about 80 million euros (2002).
