Precision balances in integrated automationWeighing operations demanding a high degree of precision and reproducibility can now be efficiently automated. METTLER TOLEDO Standard Industrial of Greifensee, Switzerland, and Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) of Nuremberg, Germany, offer integrated product combinations specially designed for high-precision applications in the chemicals, pharmaceuticals and food and drink industries. The Modulo WM digital weighing modules and Modulo WMH weighing platforms from METTLER TOLEDO are combined with the high resolution Siwarex FTA electronic weighing system (Flexible Technology Automatic Scale) by Siemens. Siwarex FTA is integrated into Simatic control technology or Simatic PCS-7 process control technology. The tested product combinations are certified by both companies. This new option for high-precision weighing tasks is the result of official cooperation between the two companies agreed in September 2004. The certificate for defined product combinations ensures that the components can be easily installed and that they operate without a problem.The Modulo WM weighing modules and Modulo WMH weighing platforms specially developed by METTLER TOLEDO for automated processes function based on electromagnetic power compensation and feature fast, precise weighing. The compact and sturdy housing contains both the measuring cell and all the electronics for integration into the automation solution. The product line for the WM weighing modules in a stainless steel housing is available in five different designs from a 120 g to 6 kg weighing range and resolutions between 0.1 mg and 0.01 g. The WMH weighing platforms are available in a number of versions with a weighing range from 15 kg to 3 tons and a resolution of 0.1 to 50 g. The weighing platforms with an IP67 degree of protection can be combined with a wide range of accessories. The high-resolution weighing sensors by METTLER TOLEDO are connected directly to the Siwarex FTA weighing electronics from Siemens. Having the design of a Simatic PLC module, Siwarex FTA controls weighing, filling and dosing processes precisely - even at high rates. Integrated diagnostic functions are used to monitor the weighing process, for example for quality assurance in the production process.
