CCT - Color Coded Triangulation
SIDIS 3DCAM - Safer, more stable, higher precision

Siemens has revolutionized chassis adjustment technology with SIDIS 3DCAM. The chassis adjustment process, once an automobile is completed, has a tremendous effect on final handling characteristics, making it one of the most important unique selling points for automobile manufacturers.

The requirements of such a chassis adjustment bench are enormous. The fact that laser evaluation technology has only a limited number of linear height profiles results in many principle-related limitations. This made Siemens choose a completely new path in developing their own measuring system - the full-coverage measurement of the wheel using the latest image processing technology.

Basis

The Siemens research department developed a 3 dimensional facial recognition system based on "Color Coded Triangulation" technology. Using this 3D technology to measure wheel alignment = SIDIS 3DCAM

The principle

The measurement process is essentially based on the principle of optical triangulation, exactly like conventional laser systems. Instead of projecting only one laser line at a small portion of the tire per probe, however, the projector is able to project several hundred colored lines over the entire wheel (and the wheel housing edge if necessary).

Advantages

SIDIS 3DCAM offers decisive advantages over conventional laser technology.

  • Increased process safety
  • Stable measurement on stationary and rotating wheels
  • Highest level of precision in all tire-rim combinations (low profile tires, rim protection, etc.)
  • Large measurement area
  • Highly robust
  • High frequency of measurements
  • Flexible set up for various measurement and testing tasks

Conclusion

Hundreds of thousands of measurement points are available due to complete surface measurement, rather than the few measurement points used by laser systems. When performing a measurement, all of the uneven places on the side of the wheel are reliably filtered out. The fluctuating measurement values that can occur on laser systems (e.g. when a laser line precisely strikes a discontinuity, an uneven spot is projected.

Safer! More stable! Higher precision!
