SIMATIC S7-400: The Power Controller for system solutions in the manufacturing and process industries
Within the Controller family, the SIMATIC S7-400 is designed for system solutions in manufacturing and process automation. The connection of SIMATIC S7-400 via communications processors permits direct integration of the controllers into Industrial Ethernet. The communications processors have multi-protocol capability and support the following protocols:
- PG/OP communication
- S7 communication
- S5-compatible communication (SEND/RECEIVE, FETCH/WRITE)
- PROFINET
- IT (only CP 443-1 Advanced)

In addition to the functionality of the CP 443-1, the CP 443-1 Advanced offers with the e-mail functions, http-based diagnostics and user-created web pages and thus optimally supports maintenance and quality assurance. The Internet functions, such as the FTP Client or JAVA, even permit the direct connection to the ERP level without the need for additional gateways.
Because of the two separate interfaces the CP is qualified for network seperation between Control- and Field-Level for e.g. better performance
Thanks to the integrated 4-port switch, it is particularly suitable for applications in small networks and, in addition to the proven industrial features of the CP 443-1, it offers IT functionality and the possibility of connecting PROFINET I/O devices. Therefore, for the S7-400, this CP is the bridge between the field level over PROFINET and the MES level.
