CP 1604 Communications Processor

The CP 1604 has the same functionality as the CP 1616, but it is implemented in PC104/PLUS module format. It supports both PROFINET real-time characteristics Real-Time RT and Isochronous Real-Time IRT (the hardware is designed for real-time capability; a firmware update will follow). IRT is particularly suitable for time-critical applications that extend into the area of strict isochronous closed-loop control in the motion control field.

Real-time Ethernet with ASIC ERTEC 400 inside
With the ERTEC 400 ASIC, hardware supported preprocessing of real-time communication significantly enhances the performance.
Cost savings through 4-port real-time switch
Integration of the ERTEC 400 ASIC means that a 4-port real-time switch is also available. The line topology can be realized in a low-cost manner for equipment distributed over long distances. Downwards compatibility to older Ethernet data terminals is assured.
External power supply supports operation of the switch in the event of PC failure
An optional external supply voltage supports switch mode even when the PC is switched off. This option is particularly important for implementation in line topologies to prevent failure of the complete network segment.
Development Kit DK-16xx PN IO: For easy porting to any PC-based operating systems
Integration into any required operating system is extremely easy. The complete PROFINET IO functionality is implemented in the firmware of the CP 1604, so only the module driver and the IO-Base software have to be imported on the operating system. The Development Kit DK-16xx PN IO, that you can order free-of-charge contains the driver and the IO-Base software for the CP 1604 as a PROFINET IO Controller and the IO-Device under Linux in the source code as well as detailed configuring instructions.
Convenient IO-Base programming interface
The interface to the PC application is implemented in the form of an IO-Base library. It provides all the functions required by C user programs for communication with PROFINET IO devices. Over the IO-Base interface, direct access to process data is possible when it is integrated as a PROFINET IO Controller.
CP 1604 as PROFINET IO Controller and as PROFINET IO Device
The CP 1604 can be used both as an I/O Controller and as a PROFINET I/O Device in PROFINET applications.
Changeover from PROFIBUS to PROFINET is easy
With the CP 1604 you can also easily make the change from the PROFIBUS modules CP 5613/CP 5614 with a DP interface to PROFINET through an I/O-Base interface.
