OLM - Optical Link Module

The PROFIBUS-OLM product family consisting of 7 modules is available in the new Version 4.0. With the same type of construction and dimensions the new PROFIBUS OLM V4.0 modules completely replace the previous products of Version 3.1.

The PROFIBUS OLMs are network components for transforming or converting electrical PROFIBUS signals into optical PROFIBUS signals.

Functions:
  • Automatic detection of all PROFIBUS data transmission rates: 9.6 kbit/s to 12 Mbit/s including 45.45 kbit/s (PROFIBUS PA)
  • Redundant power supply
  • Configuring of the following network topologies: Line, star, redundant ring
  • RS485 interface with segment capability (Sub-D socket)
  • The data transfer rate via a fiber optic line (max. 15 km) is independent of the distance and can be up to 12 Mbit/s.
Diagnostics: Fast localization of faults:
  • Function monitoring by means of signaling contact
  • Signaling of the fiber optic line quality using LEDs for channel monitoring
  • Analog value signaling of the fiber optic line quality; evaluation with voltmeter via measurement terminal or reading to the PLC via analog module
New functionality and changes compared to PROFIBUS OLM V3.1:
  • Stainless steel enclosure
  • LED signaling of fiber optic line quality using LEDs for channel monitoring
  • Signaling of fiber optic line quality at a measurement terminal (enables the analog voltage value to be read into the PLC via an analog input module)
  • Improved EMC resistance compared to predecessor model
  • Additional approvals such as ATEX ExZone 2 and UL-HazLoc

  • High availability of the network thanks to redundant optical ring structure
  • High availability can be achieved using a redundant power supply and redundant cable routing
  • Fast fault localization due to signaling contact, LED, channel monitoring LED and measurement terminals
  • Large range due to use of glass fiber optic cables in lengths of up to 15 km
  • OLM/G12-EEC for outdoor use down to –25 °C
