The CP 443-5s are the communications processors of the SIMATIC S7-400 for the PROFIBUS FMS bus system. They relieve the CPU of communications tasks.

The CP443-5 Basic communications processor offers the following communications services

• S5-compatible communication (SEND/RECEIVE)

The similar-looking CP 443-5 Extended on the other hand includes the following communications services:

• PROFIBUS DP-V1
• PG/OP communication
• S7 communication
• S5-compatible communication (SEND/RECEIVE)

The communications processors are easy to configure and can be programmed using PROFIBUS. They offer cross-network communication between programming devices using S7 routing and can be replaced with the need for a programming device.
