Safety
As a builder and operator of machines and plants, you’re required by law to ensure the safety of people and the environment. In addition, you must consistently comply with the rules and regulations at the location where you’re operating the machine or plant.
To ensure consistency with guidelines, we recommend compliance with internationally recognized standards such as IEC 61508 and EN 954-1 as well as the IEC 62061 and IEC 61511 standards.
The safety-related components of SIMATIC Safety Integrated are certified by TÜV (the German technical inspection agency) and meet the strictest international safety standards in line with Category 4 according to EN 954-1 and SIL 3 according to IEC 61508.
Integration of safety technology into standard technology
The safety-related tasks can be integrated as needed in the standard SIMATIC technology or also in the process control technology, which means that Siemens offers a complete end-to-end system. The safety program and the standard program can thus be processed on one controller while fault-free and standard communications as well as mixed-mode operation of standard and safety modules takes place in an ET 200 station. Fail-safe communication is based on the PROFIBUS and PROFINET international standards in the manufacturing industry using the PROFIsafe profile certified according to IEC 61508.
Flexible modular redundancy using a fail-safe, fault-tolerant system configuration
This allows us to implement a wide range of innovative solutions – such as wireless fail-safe communications via IWLAN and PROFINET, or implementation of multiple fault tolerance levels with PROFIBUS in line with requirements, as occurs in various applications in process stability (FMR).
