PROFINET, the open, cross-vendor standard, is backed by PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI) and enables maximum transparency from the management level to the field level. It allows open IT communication, network security and simultaneous real-time communication. PROFINET is well established with more than 1.1 million installed nodes in the field and an expected growth rate of more than 35 percent per year.

Besides all established diagnostic functions PROFINET offers new comprehensive diagnostic options like establisheds IT-standards, such as web services. To increase plant availability diagnostic information is available from anywhere, it also includes preventive diagnostics and maintenance.

PROFINET in combination with Industrial Wireless LAN offers all possibilities for efficient company-wide communication. Hence, it ensures fast and easy integration of mobile devices for highest flexibility in production – maintenance free und cost-effective. Based on the international standard IEEE 802.11, Industrial Wireless LAN is robust, secure, and reliable as the cable itself and also enables fail-safe communication.

PROFINET uses the established and proven PROFIsafe profile for fail-safe communication allowing standard and safety-related communication with the same media – wired or wireless. So continuous diagnostics and a common user interface are guaranteed down to the drive. This way highest protection for humans and machines in your enterprise is ensured.
