Reliable communication solutions between two cranes and the warehouse management system in compliance with comprehensive safety regulations

The communication is to be carried out via Ethernet/ IWLAN and must be fail-safe to the cranes.

As a special characteristic the cranes must be able to communicate directly with each other, i.e. without involvement of the "Mainland-PLC."

The total movement distance of the cranes is approx. 210m.

Communication is to take place at 5 GHz band for resistance to jamming.

The system must operate reliably in 24& mode.

Communication solutions with RCoax along the movement track of the cranes ensure stable and consitent radio coverage.

Based on the overall length of 210m and the required 5GHz frequency band the RCoax was divided into 3 segments with each segment being supplied by a stationary Access Point SCALANCE W786-1RR.

A SCALANCE W747-1RR client module is used as a counterpart on each crane

All safety relevant information is transmitted via Profibus. This ensures that under no circumstances will the cranes collide.

Reliable wireless communication

The outdoor access points SCALANCE W786-1RR with IP65 are especially well suited for extremely harsh industrial environments.

The function RR (Rapid Roaming) enables uninterruptible data communication even at the junction between the RCoax segments
