Wire wrapping machine
Wire wrapping machines are intended to manufacture coils and motor windings. The wire is wound off either from a wire coil with adjustable pull (mechanical wire brake) and then wound either directly to the coil shell or to a template. During the wrapping process itself, only the flyer and the template axes are in mesh.
These are a rotary and a linear axes with the following interrelation, either:
- interpolatory, constant feedrate at variable revolutional speed or
- discrete, constant revolutional speed and angle-dependent starting of the linear axis.
Any further 5 to 6 axes will be used as single axes for setup and part handling tasks. Wrapping machines are linked increasingly with automatic pull-in machines (the windings are pulled into the motor stator), armoring machines and winding overhang forming machines.
