This makes it possible to detect weaknesses early on and localize them quickly in the event of a fault.
The Industrial Ethernet switches SCALANCE X005, X-100, ,X-200, X-200IRT,
X-400, Optical Switch Modules (OSM) und Electrical Switch Modules (ESM) provide the following

LEDs
Local indicators on the device for power, port status and data traffic

Fault signaling contact
Potential-free fault signaling contact enables the signaling of link traffic,
making it possible to monitor the module from a controller via e.g. an input module.

Message screen for fault signaling contact
The message screen form is set by pushbutton to the current
status of the switch (setpoint status). It determines which ports and which voltage supplies should be monitored. The signaling
contact reports a fault only when a monitored port or a monitored voltage supply fails (deviation between setpoint and actual status).

PROFINET diagnostics
PROFINET diagnostic alarms from SCALANCE X-200 and SCALANCE X-400 (coming soon) can be displayed with STEP 7 and also processed in the controller.
Thanks to full integration in the SIMATIC concept for system error messages, the engineering overhead for PLC and HMI is reduced.

Web-based management
The integrated Web server enables configuration and diagnostic settings by means of a standard browser.
Statistical information can also be read out over the Web server.

Standard diagnostics over SNMP
Over SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), switches SCALANCE X-200, SCALANCE X-400 and
OSM/ESM can be monitored in virtually any network management system and, with the aid of the SNMP OPC server, in HMI systems as well.
When problems occur on the device, fault messages (SNMP traps) can be sent to a network management system or as e-mail to a pre-specified
network administrator. Other diagnostic options are provided by SCALANCE X-400 switches with Virtual LAN (VLAN), IGMP Snooping/ Querier,
Rapid Spanning Tree (RSTP), Multicast-/Broadcast limiting and IP routing (Layer 3).

In the case of Industrial Ethernet, SCALANCE X-100 media converters are required for the selective use of fiber-optics cables.  Media converter X-100
are equipped with a fault signaling contact which is configured with a SET button on the front of the device. LEDs provide local diagnostics.
