"Transmitted to productivity" -
Automation of a transmission assembly line
|
 |
|
When new generations of automatic transmissions replace old ones, not only does
the product change, but the lines for assembling these transmissions too have to
operate more efficiently to meet the increasing cost pressure exerted by the automobile manufacturers.
In practice, this led to demanding targets for the new assembly lines of the 6-speed
automatic transmission at the ZF Getriebe GmbH Saarbruecken: A doubling of
the volume while maintaining the same footprint and number of employees. |
 |
|
|
But the final assembly still requires a large number of manual workstations
which cannot be automated, so productivity increase results from optimizing
processes in logistics, documentation and testing. ZF Saarbruecken invested in
a automation system that met all requirements in communication and
consistency: SIMATIC.
From S7-300 controllers right up to roughly 90 MP370 Multi Panels, Panel PC
670 computers close to the machine and the WinCC SCADA system, the components
work together hand in hand: Totally
Integrated Automation at it´s best.
