Modernized commissioning plant with increased availability

The Original Parts Center (German
OTC) of the Volkswagen AG at Kassel-Baunatal
is the largest of its kind in Europe and stocks more than 300,000 different components
for the brands Volkswagen and Audi. The OTC stretches
across an area the size of 36 football pitches.
To ensure trouble-free delivery of original parts around the globe, Volkswagen has modernized its commissioning system for heavy parts in
Kassel-Baunatal extensively with Simatic components.
The Original Parts Sales department contracted Dressel
GmbH in Dortmund to convert the commissioning
system. A new optical measuring system now ensures that
even damaged or deformed containers do not interrupt the
process.

To further minimize downtimes, an efficient step sequence diagnosis software
package has been implantedto the HMI system. The teaching of the machine has
also been made a lot more comfortable by employing a Mobile Panel 170.
Result: the availability of the plant has been increased enormously.
