Hello to all,

I have PCS7 v7.0 SP1 installed under XP SP2. Recently I noticed that PC is working very slow. After some time investigating I saw that the s7epatsx.exe process i running all the time pushing the processor to 100% load. I reinstalled PC and PCS7 several times put it keeps happening all the time. Only thing that I can do is after start up of the PC or when I notice that service is running to shut it down manually in Task Manager. If I do not do that it want even load station configuration.

Is there some solution for this problem? I lost two weeks trying to resolve it by my self.

Hello Djordje,

the program is "Setting the PG-PC Interface". So try to look up for communication/hardware problems of your PC (maybe in Device Manager).

Have you ever tried to change PG-PC Interface, was it successful?

What PG-PC Interface is chosen on your PC?
What items are configured in your Station Configurator?

Have you tried to remove Station Configurator from automatic startup in Windows? I wonder if the s7epatsx.exe still will be launched.

Hi Djordje,

It wouldn't solve your problem at the root, but you can kill the process s7epatsx.exe manually using task manager.
That way you can at least work at reasonable speed, until you get the final solution.

Kind regards,
BV

Hello,

I am having the same issue. In my case I am running an XP Pro virtual machine. When it stops responding and I check in the Task Manager it has the s7epatsx.exe taking 99% of the CPU. When I kill it, it then responds. Not sure if some of the posted responses are for this problem. I would really like to see a solution to this problem.

Well this problem has something to do with station configurator. When you disable it (using msconfig), the s7epatsx is not initiated and things remain normal. Problem come again if you start configurator manually. If setup of S7 is OK, then normally whenever Configurator is started the s7epatsx comes up and goes away very quickly (in unhealthy system s7epatsx stays).I have checked this in healthy system.
System misbehave if you have installed some software like PLCSIM after installation of Step7. And this is always not necessary.

Problem is associated with the latest versions of VMWare Workstation or Player.

The following is extracted from the link referenced below (even though talks about Workstation version same is true for Player):

VMware Solution:

Max CPU usage by S7oiehsx.exe and S7epatsx.exe appears to be related  to a change in the VM BIOS (this was not an issue with Workstation 7).  Workstation 8's version of the BIOS allows for more CPUs and RAM.  Extract the VM BIOS from Workstation 7, then change your VM's settings  to use the version 7 BIOS. Running in 8 with a 7 BIOS eliminates the  problem.
See: http://pete.akeo.ie/2011/06/extracting-and-using-modified-vmware.html

Fix/Workaround confirmed with:
STEP 7 V5.3 SP2 HF15
STEP 7 V5.4 SP4 HF6

I had the same issue with a VMWare image running on an ESXi machine. I solved it by doing the following:

- In Station Configurator, click disable station.
- In SIMATIC Manager, "Set PG/PC Interface". Set it to "local". (This would not open as long as station was enabled)
- In Station configurator, click enable station again.

And CPU is now normal again..
