Tele-engineering in a Multimedial Learning Environment
Our Project
For this project, we have asked a team of trainee electrical engineers specializing in automation
to help us test the processing of an automation task by several project teams in different locations.
The aim is to determine the possibilities and limits of a cooperative learning environment.
The planned tele-engineering operation is to be carried out in the 99/00 winter semester as part of
their practical training in the subjects "Industrial Communication Systems" (Cologne Technical
University, Gummersbach dept.) and "Process Control" (Düsseldorf Technical University).
The task of the participating student teams is to put a processing station with a control system
and graphical user interface into operation and test it. Communication between the two locations is
achieved via a video and document conference system.
Project partners:
Cologne Technical University, Gummersbach dept., Electrical Engineering, Information and
Communication Systems Laboratory, Prof. Dr. Frithjof Klasen:
Development of educational concept and implementation in a test environment, setup and
preparation of a testing station, implementation of tele-engineering methods, evaluation of results.
Düsseldorf Technical University, School of Electrical Engineering, Process Control Laboratory,
Prof. Dr. Reinhard Langmann: Development of educational concept and implementation in a test environment, setup and preparation of a testing
station, implementation of teleengineering methods, evaluation of results.

Siemens
AG, A&D Group, RDT, Joachim Kessler: Project support through provision of
information, software and hardware for the SIMATIC components used; organization of working meetings
for project partners; provision of PR platforms; project financing.

Festo Didactic, Albrecht Winter: Project support through
provision of information, software and hardware for the components used; provision of PR platforms.

Siemens control systems
Siemens control systems are being used for the project:
Cologne Technical University, Gummersbach dept.: S7-300 with PROFIBUS I/O (or alternatively:
WinAC with PROFIBUS I/O)
Düsseldorf Technical University: WinAC with PROFIBUS I/O
WinCC is being used as the visualization system. |
