Presentation of products for the food and beverages industry

From April 8 through 11, Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) will be presenting its products and services for the food and beverages industry at the Anuga FoodTec 2003 trade fair in Cologne (Hall 9.1, Booth C029). Highlights will include Simatic IT products for process optimization, the PCS 7 process control system for uniform automation of entire production facilities, and Profinet-based CBA (Component based Automation) for simplified automation in modular plant and machine construction. In Simatic IT, Siemens is marketing MES products (Manufacturing Execution Systems) for the flexible and economical adaptation of production lines to consumer preferences. Simatic IT for the food and beverages industry for instance reduces purchasing and production costs, and can integrate specific parts of an operation (such as laboratories) or the entire supply chain into business processes.

Simatic IT Unilab optimizes laboratory operations by improving quality and reducing turnaround times, errors and waste in tests and analyses.

Simatic IT Interspec manages product specifications from raw materials and industrial materials to semi-packaged or packaged products. Simatic IT Interspec reduces purchasing costs and verifies product quality.

The PCS 7 process control system utilizes Totally Integrated Automation, the uniform automation technology from Siemens. The system is scalable, therefore equally suitable for smaller operations and for large plants. Plant structures can be replicated in compliance with the ISA S88 standard to facilitate plant planning and operation. The ISA S88-compliant recipe system, for instance, controls batch processing and the production process in accordance with different batch recipes. It's easy to change setpoint values or to define new process sequences. The system and the production process are centrally monitored on the PC. The user can access subsystems, production steps and step-enabling commands down to individual parameters and measured values.

Profinet-based Component based Automation simplifies automation in modular plant and machine construction. Machine and plant modules can be more readily reused, and onsite start-up times are substantially shortened. What's more, it's simple to expand existing plants. Modular solutions are particularly advantageous in filling and packaging applications, in which machines of different manufacturers are often used.
