The Sipart PS2 electropneumatic positioner from Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) is now also suitable for safety-related applications with requirements up to SIL 2 (Safety Integrity Level). The positioner ensures safe discharge of air from the pneumatic actuator when required.
Together with exida.com, SIL qualification has been carried out for the 4-20-mA versions including Hart communication for single-acting actuators. Over a period of more than two years, reliability of operation was proven in accordance with IEC 61508/61511. Failure rates were determined by way of a full FMEDA (Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostic Analysis) for the electronic and mechanical components in accordance with IEC 61508.
A high number of safety requirements are encountered in the chemical, oil and gas industries. For example, air must be discharged from a pneumatic actuator when required. Sipart PS2 fulfils all requirements of the user and offers a high level of flexibility for the application. Enclosures are available in plastic, aluminum or stainless steel and Sipart PS 2 can be mounted on standard rotary and linear valves of almost all manufacturers.
