SIMATIC ET 200, a whole
range of distributed I/O systems is available for the distributed
expansion of the SIMATIC safety controllers.
PROFIBUS and the PROFIsafe profile are used for communication.
Both safety-oriented and standard communication are possible in
this way via one and the same cable.

The fail-safe I/Os are internally redundant, can
diagnose internal and external faults and carry out numerous self-tests
and field-wiring diagnostics (e.g. short-circuiting, wire break).
