BMS: Burner Management Systems
 |
A Burner Management System (BMS) is defined by
EN298 and NFPA 85 (2001) as:
The control system dedicated to combustion
safety and operator assistance in the starting and stopping of fuel
preparation and burning equipment and for preventing misoperation
of and damage to fuel preparation and burning equipment.
|
BMS's range from very small systems on single burner boilers to very
large systems on utility boilers.
Programming with CFC:
Siemens as well as several of Siemens Solution Provider
partners have developed solutions based on both the QUADLOG, TÜV
certified safety system platforms
SIMATIC
S7-300F and the
SIMATIC S7-400FH. These systems fulfill the requirements of
the performance-based safety standards ANSI/ISA 84, IEC 61508, and IEC
61511 as well as conforming with the prescriptive NFPA 85 and NFPA 86
codes. Siemens also offers TÃV-certified BMS function block libraries
for those who desire to implement their own solution.
Application standards:

As a Safety Instrumented System (SIS), BM Systems are subject to IEC 61511

NFPA 85 and EN 298 describe in detail how these systems
must be constructed. |
