| Compact module facilitates easy connection of light curtains with ASIsafe |
|  Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) is expanding its product range for ASIsafe with a new, safe compact module from the K45F series. With the K45F 2F-DI LS (light sensor) module, electronic safety sensors with testing semiconductor outputs can be integrated in AS-Interface networks. These include contact-free protective devices such as active, optoelectronic standard light grids and light curtains (type 2/type 4 according to IEC/EN 61496-1, -2). This enables the user to connect even standard devices which do not have their own interfaces.

|  With the new IE/AS-i Link PN IO router, Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) offers a compact connection between the Profinet level and the AS-Interface level. As an AS-Interface master, the device provides users integrated exchange of information and diagnostics data. At the same time, the communication interface links higher-level systems even more efficiently with the lowest field level. With the link to Profinet, AS-Interface can now be even better integrated into the world of Totally Integrated Automation.

| New interpreter for AS-Interface |
|  Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) offers a new DP/AS-i Link Advanced for simple linking of the communication networks of Profibus and AS-Interface. The routers in accordance with AS-i Spec. 3.0 are available as single or double masters for applications with a large number of slaves. The pixel-graphics display and the integral Web server are new. This device organizes data traffic on the AS-Interface line and makes the signals of the sensors and actuators available on one interface.

|  Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) has modified its AS-Interface analyzer and added new functions. Code tables are now evaluated by safety-related AS-i slaves. Furthermore, the respective status of the slave input is indicated. Using the trace function, status changes can be logged in order to analyze the switch response of the associated safety monitor.

| Efficient training for industrial communications networks - from Industrial Ethernet to AS-Interface |
|  A newly designed series of training courses for industrial communications networks will be launched by Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) in October 2004. This program will help participants gain a head start in industrial communications, or greater in-depth knowledge in specific aspects of communications. Participants learn how to install and service networks, and how to correct faults swiftly. There are courses for all activities including sales, project design and programming as well as service. The courses cover the major industrial bus systems: Industrial Ethernet, Profinet, Wireless LAN, Profibus, AS-Interface and KNX as well as related subjects, such as OPC and IT technology.
