Gold Coast odour control solved

The eight odour control systems will be manufactured in Australia and will be installed at "odour sensitive" pumping stations in the Gold Coast sewage collection system.
Siemens Water Technologies Business Development Manager Odour Control, John Williams, said it was important to have knowledge transfer for local manufacturing which results in maximum local value add, lowering of costs of construction and meeting the specific standards demanded by our customers.
"The unique technology contained in these odour control systems is called Siemens Midas activated carbon."
"Activated carbon is a general term which covers carbon material mostly derived from charcoal - it denotes a material with an exceptionally high surface area," said Mr Williams.

"Just one gram of activated carbon has the surface area of approximately two tennis courts."
Midas adsorbs malodorous Hydrogen Sulphide, the major nuisance gas associated with waste water collection systems. The Hydrogen Sulphide is then converted into elemental sulphur which does not have the same pungent odour characteristics. The elemental sulphur turns golden yellow in colour during the conversion process - hence the name Midas.
The exceptional capacity of Midas for Hydrogen Sulphide together with the ability of the system to function in geographical regions with high humidity has made the Midas activated carbon systems a first choice for Gold Coast Water.
