Siemens invests in Australian electrical drives technology business01/05/07Siemens Ltd. Australia and New Zealand announced the acquisition of the business of Emsby Pty Ltd., a Queensland-based electrical drives technology company supplying the infrastructure and process industries. The operations of Emsby will add value to the Siemens Industrial Automation & Control (IAC) group by further increasing its engineering, system integration and after market services to the Australian and New Zealand markets. Emsby specialises in the application and system integration of medium and low voltage variable frequency drives and electronic soft starters to a variety of industries. In the medium voltage drives segment, Emsby has also established a solid reputation with the Perfect Harmony product manufactured by Robicon, a company which was acquired by Siemens in 2005. Siemens Executive General Manager Industrial Automation & Control, Bernhard Kienlein, said the investment will significantly strengthen the company's electrical drives and power quality offerings in the Australian and New Zealand markets, especially within the process industries. "The acquisition will further enable Siemens to compete in the robust drives markets in Australia and New Zealand, which are currently being fuelled by strong growth in resources sectors such as mining, water, metals, cement and oil and gas, as well as increased demand for energy saving technologies due to energy price rises." Emsby, founded in 1983 and headquartered in Brisbane, now has 25 employees and will be integrated into Siemens Ltd. as part of the IAC group.
