Motors for Refrigeration Compressors for Chiller Manufac- turers
Challenge
 A
globally active chiller manufacturer wanted a new motor series that could operate
perfectly in a cooling medium (refrigerant) for semi-hermetic refrigeration compressors
that are used to cool technical processes, climate control systems and foodstuffs.
A winding that is resistant to refrigerants (e.g. Freon) using a special impregnation,
high production precision, intensive cooling and low residual humidity were speci-
fied. Further it was necessary to completely fulfill the specifications when
starting the compressor.
Solution
A separate production line guaranteed that the increased production require-
ments could be reliably fulfilled. Special resins secure the required immunity
to refrigerants. Further, a special packaging ensured that the residual humidity
is kept to a minimum. The newly developed starting winding permits a higher starting
torque with reduced starting current. And extensively optimized motor cross-section
opened up additional advantages.
