Automation à la mode
Heitec AG in Erlangen has made an extensive trough conveyor system at the dispatch centre of Quelle Neckermann Logistik fit for the future with modern guidance and control technology. This will allow the service provider to make up and send packages of the latest fashion trends for its customers at the usual speed in peak times to come. Since then, failures have been rare and availability and deliverability lastingly ensured.

Fast movements under control
In portal robots, part of the system is constantly in motion. To suppress internal vibrations due to the controller used and to protect the operating personnel, the US company CAMotion has chosen a common bus topology via Profinet which combines wireless and wired communication links plus Safety.

Identification on the Conveyor Belt
With the Moby U identification system, Audi in Neckarsulm is optimizing its data input for quality assurance for the A6 production. The new system is faster and more reliable than scanning in the barcode manually. Following positive experience with the non-contact data input system, Audi is considering using this system on other assembly lines at the Neckarsulm factory.

Totally refined visualization
State-of-the-art automation technology is helping a Berlin coffee roaster to keep the quality of his products constant, the yield high and the costs reasonable. The new control system visualizes current process data on several Web Clients in the company network or over the Internet, archives data automatically and supplies informative batch logs at the push of a button. Two local Thin Clients also use the operating screens created in the control system directly.

Precision in Seconds
The new Pfiffner RT 100-12 rotary indexing center enables production of complex mass-produced workpieces of high quality. Three Sinumerik 840D control systems pace the machine, contributing to low cycle times, and thus to high profitability.

Networked Cavern Field
The company SGW uses a network of programmable logic controllers to acquire and edit the process data from around 60 widely dispersed salt and oil caverns. Profinet-compatible controllers control the local process I/Os and provide thousands of current values to the control room every second. The aim is to achieve a horizontally and vertically integrated installation with diagnostic options via Profinet and Profibus DP right down to actuator/sensor level under Profibus PA.

Clean Water in Abundance
The town of Rainsville, Alabama set itself the objective of raising the wastewater treatment capacity of its sewage treatment plant by an average of 30 percent, and to increase the peak load to improve the capability to capture run-off after heavy rainfalls. For the automation solution, the American systems company Hi-Tech Systems Inc. selected a network that uses Profinet and Component Based Automation (CBA), which combines communication between the automation components with the advantages of IT solutions with remote diagnostics functions.

Printing machines benefit from Profinet
Due to the almost unlimited possibilities of the IT technologies, greater demands are being made on the actuality of print media today than ever before. Profinet offers printing contractors many new possibilities: They can make changes to the contents of their orders or update prices virtually at the last minute.

Expansion with Minimum Effort
With the aid of the new AS Interface Extension Plug, which doubles the permissible line length of an AS Interface segment, Osram were very easily able to expand their xenon lamp production.

Solutions for Powertrain in Gear Production at VW
In a gear production system for Volkswagen Siemens utilizes Solutions for Powertrain-Transline to demonstrate its expertise in solutions as a systems provider in hardware, engineering and support. The concept based on Sinumerik and Simatic products permitted a smooth start-up and allows trouble-free expansions by the gear manufacturer.

Safer Service via the Web
The Heller machinery factory is greatly expanding its teleservice capacity. The web-based ePS Network Services from Siemens serve as the basis for the expanded process-oriented Service and Support. The goals of the additional services and preventive measures are even higher availability and lower cost per unit for the end-user.

Simatic optimizes gear machine production
With a control system for the assembly line for new gear machines, ZF in Saarbrücken achieves maximum productivity in a confined space. Planning, logistics and maintenance have access to the latest line data, which allows efficient plant management. The control system was planned, developed and implemented by Siemens with proven Simatic components.

Safety in the Tank
TI Automotive, located in the Belgian town of Lokeren, operates just-in-time production for the automotive industry, adhering to the highest possible quality standards. It constantly optimizes its production, giving the highest priority to flexibility, safety and reliability. These are ideal conditions for application of the Siemens Safety Integrated concept, as well as for easy-to-integrate quality control and preventive maintenance solutions with Mobile Panels.
