| Maximum performance: Simatic Rack PC | | Robust Industry Sales Favorite | The number of high-performance applications in industry continues to grow. In order to be able to process the increasing data volume as quickly as possible, more and more powerful industrial PCs with state-of-the-art technology are required. Ideally fulfilling these requirements, the attractively priced Simatic Rack PC IL 43 also allows for flexible integration into the machine concept.
Industrial PCs must be capable of handling a combination of several tasks. They must, for example, be equipped with a high-performance CPU for evaluating and archiving image information as well as high-performance graphics capabilities for visualization. The Simatic Rack PC IL 43 is equipped with a state-of-the-art chip set and memory technology for specifically handling tasks of this type.
Modern high-performance PC technology
The latest Pentium 4 processor technology from Intel forms the basis for highest level performance. Depending on the application, the CPUs of the Simatic Rack PC offer three different scale variations. Pentium 4 processor 551: 3.4 GHz with 800 MHz front side bus (FSB) and 1 MB second level cache (SLC), Pentium 4 processor 531: 3.0 GHz with 800 MHz FSB and 1 MB SLC, and Celeron D 331: 2.66 GHz with 533 MHz FSB and 256 KB SLC.
The Hyper Threading Technology (HAT) of the Pentium 4 processors has proven to be particularly advantageous for data-intensive applications. Through efficient resource utilization, the CPU is capable of processing two tasks (threads) simultaneously, thus, performing more work in the same amount of time. The 945 G Express Intel chipset has been optimized especially for the processors in question. With a 533 MHz and 800 MHz FSB, it offers high system bus speed. Trough optimal component assembly and active cooling concept, this Rack PC reliably offers full processor performance even in 24-7 operation at operation temperatures up to 40 °C in full configuration. Consequently, processor thrott-ling (automatic reduction of processor speed) is being avoided. The 2D and 3D graphic controller integrated into the chip set ensures fast image reconstruction and provides impressive visualizations. Faster system RAM reaction time is achieved with the help of the dual channel mode. The high performance of the industrial PC is also ensured through efficient 120 GByte serial ATA hard disks (SATA), featuring NCQ technology (Native Command Queuing). The technology optimizes and accelerates the management of the read and write processes. Consequently, mechanical wear is reduced as a result of the fact that the hard disk is able to "intelligently" reorganize up to 32 incoming commands before accessing the data.
More performance is also obtained through the PCI Express (Peripheral Component Interconnect) interfaces. Thanks to their full duplex operation capability, they offer a high data transfer rate and allow for faster access to peripheral devices connected by plug-in cards. Via the Ethernet interface integrated into the mother board, process or production data can be transferred quickly to a control station.
In addition, a total of six high-speed USB 2.0 interfaces offer extensive communication capabilities with the external periphery, whereby the high computing speed of 480 Mbit/s also enables fast data archiving to external drives.
Integrated system availability
The stable solid metal housing of the Simatic Rack PC IL 43 with its special hard disk fastening concept forms the basis for the unit's high degree of mechanical robustness and high EMC performance. To avoid potential sources of failure, monitoring and diagnostic functions are also integrated. In this way, the data and any faults can be signaled early through remote transmission, or locally with the optional Simatic PC DiagMonitor software. The SATA RAID controller integrated into the Intel chip set also increases system availability: The operator can continue to work without interruption during a hard disk malfunction due to redundant data storage. What is more, the device data can be managed worldwide with the online PED tool. | |
