Powerful embedded industrial PC for machine-level use
Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) has equipped the compact Simatic Microbox PC 427B embedded industrial PC with powerful, energy-saving Intel-Celeron M and Pentium M processors. The IPC is designed for maintenance-free, continuous, 24-hour use, meeting increased temperature, vibration, shock and EMC requirements in harsh industrial environments. The device is suitable for space-saving implementation of high-speed I&C, HMI and communication tasks.

The new Microbox PC offers more than double the computing power of the predecessor model. It is available in different versions with an Intel Celeron M processor (900/1000 megahertz) or Intel Pentium M processor with 1.4 gigahertz. The main memory (DDR2-SDRAM) can be expanded to a maximum of 2 GB. The integral Intel GMA900 Excelerator ensures high graphics performance. Three PCI104 expansion slots and a host of interfaces make the Microbox PC 427B flexible and universal.

With its compact dimensions of 262 x 134 x 47 millimeters, the DIN rail PC fits into small control boxes or can be used direct at the machine. Fan-free and disk-free operation as well as solutions for battery-free use make the industrial PC especially service-friendly and maintenance-free. Components such as the PCI104 modules, work memory or CompactFlash card can be replaced while the device is still installed.

The Microbox PC 427B works continuously without a fan at ambient temperatures of 0 to 55 degrees Celsius (with CompactFlash card). It has an integral power supply with galvanic isolation as well as line buffering. System availability is increased by functions for monitoring voltage, temperature and program execution. Added to this are LEDs on the front for efficient self-diagnostics, such as indicating critical operating states. Process data can be safely stored with a battery-backed SRAM of two MB. The use of CompactFlash cards up to two GB as externally replaceable mass memory media (optionally also internally) ensures high system availability and minimizes standstill times.

The Simatic Microbox PC 427B is also equipped with four USB-2.0 ports, two 10/100/1000-megabit/second Ethernet connections (with teaming capability), and an optional Profibus interface. A DVI-I interface enables connection of a DVI or VGA monitor. The PC can be configured online and can be supplied on request with pre-installed and activated Microsoft Windows XP Professional or XP embedded operating system. It is also optionally available with the RMOS3 real-time operating system.
