Power Management: SIMATIC powercontrol / SIMATIC powerrate
Global energy resources are getting more scarce and expensive
by the day. Due to increased cost pressure, plant operators are looking for ways
to minimize energy costs and cut their operating costs through customized controlling.
In such cases, it makes sense to employ a power management system to ensure efficient
use of energy resources. Siemens offers solutions for this based on standard
products:
as a stand-alone version (SIMATIC powercontrol)
as an add-on for SIMATIC PCS 7 (SIMATIC PCS 7 powerrate)
or SIMATIC S7 / WinCC (SIMATIC WinCC powerrate)

Technical Magazine advance on the Topic of Energy Management
The current edition of our technical magazine advance
describes how resources can be saved in automation. Totally Integrated Automation
opens up new ways of saving energy. MES systems measure individual consumption
values and contribute enormously to an overall reduction of total energy consumption.
A reference article on the use of frequency converters at Shell in Ludwigshafen
(Germany) describes how energy consumption of pumping systems could be reduced
considerably. Further references on Totally Integrated Automation illustrate
the versatility and performance capability of the system.
