The SIMODRIVE drive system provides numerous functions for feed and main spindle applications with analog and digital control.
Here is a selection of these functions.
Starting Lockout
To prevent an unexpected restart after the drives have been stopped, a starting lockout is integrated in each drive module. The starting lockout blocks the power transistors by a circuit approved by the Statutory Industrial Accident Insurance Institution. This interrupts the power supply to the motor. In conjunction with a suitable external interlocking circuit, it is possible to construct a machine control in accordance with prEN 954, category 1 or 3 and under certain conditions category 4. Using the starting lockout, it is possible to implement the "Safe operating stop" function.

Gantry Operation
The gantry operation function implements the synchronous traversing of two mechanically coupled machine axes via independent axis drives. Only one axis is programmed but both gantry axes traverse as if they were a single axis. Several gantry axis pairs can be generated.
Weight Compensation, Electronic
The electronic weight compensation permits fixing of a suspended axis without a mechanical compensation weight. By injecting an additional torque setpoint, the compensation control of the axis is started immediately after it is enabled and the axis then maintains its position.
Start-up Support
For easy start-up of the main spindle and asynchronous modules, a start-up software for PC/PG is available. Using this software, the drives can be started up and optimized under menu-guidance. For asynchronous modules, an optimum controller setting is calculated after input of the electrical basic data of the motor.

With SIMODRIVE 611 main spindle controls, asynchronous motor modules and digital feed controls, various setting values of the control with up to eight parameter sets are available, such as:

Setpoint Smoothing Filter
With the current and speed setpoint filter (low-pass filter or band-stop filter) it is possible to attenuate resonance of the drives. In this way, the control parameters can be optimized for the machine mechanics and full use can be made of the dynamic response of the control-drive system.
